Military Families: Thank You

Posted in TrainingNo Comment

military-family-walkingIt’s the season for family and celebration, but this year there will be many military families celebrating the holidays separated from their loved ones. We would like to thank these military families for their service and sacrifice.

Americans all over the country often wish to express their gratitude by offering things like military discounts or other initiatives. One significant program meant to help military families is the My Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program, which gives military spouses flexible opportunities to study despite their busy military lifestyles.

Opportunity for Education

The Department of Defense recognizes the challenges associated with the military lifestyle as well as the extra strain it places on families. As a way of thanking these families and relieving some of the stress caused by military life, the Department of Defense offers military spouses opportunities for education and job training through the MyCAA program. This program offers up to $4,000 to eligible military spouses to pay for tuition on approved programs, providing career opportunities compatible with the unique military lifestyle.

Something for Everyone

For those who don’t qualify for MyCAA, there are still plenty of options available.  There are a variety of scholarships and discounts for military members and their families. For example, Career Step has a partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College that provides those with ties to the military an additional funding option. Through this partnership, veterans, members of the military, and their families can enroll in Career Step’s programs at 90% off  normal tuition rates, or for as little as $180.

The Gift of a New Career

Career Step is proud to participate in the MyCAA program and to support military spouses. Over 15,000 military service members and their spouses have been trained through Career Step’s programs. One military spouse, Maisha Martin, said of her experience, “Career Step enabled me to gain both book knowledge and, most importantly, experience through the externship program, all of which gave me everything I needed to successfully pass the PTCB [Pharmacy Technician Certification Board] Exam and obtain my national certification.”

Maisha was able to enroll through the MyCAA program, which completely covered the cost of her tuition. She completed her program in 3 months and began working less than a month later.
