Balancing School, Work, and Life — Part 2

Posted in TrainingNo Comment

Military spouses already have full plates. So if you’re trying to decide if you can fit going back to school in the mix too—or perhaps you’ve already decided to go for it—we have round 2 of our tips on how to achieve that elusive work-life balance.

So here are this month’s tips (and be sure to check out part 1 too!)…
Juggling military life
Build Study Time into Your Routine

If you just expect study time to happen, you’re going to be disappointed (especially if you’re training through an online program—which are great options for military spouses because of the flexibility). You have to make time for studying. Fit in a few minutes wherever you can get it and build study time into your routine. For example, your day could look like this: get up, eat breakfast, study, go to work, study on lunch break, run errands after work, cook dinner, family time, study before bed.

Stay Organized

More than ever, you need a little organization in your life. When you’re busy, being organization can keep you on track and save your sanity. Instead of trying to keep track of little Timmy’s soccer game, when you planned to finish your latest unit in school, and when you’re working late—write it down! Another great way to save time is to keep all your study materials in one spot so you don’t have to hunt them down whenever you have a few minutes to study.

Don’t Underestimate the Power of Support Groups

Now is not the time to slack on your personal relationships! You need the positive people in your life because they can be a huge source of support and encouragement as you’re making big changes. Whether you lean on family, friends, or classmates find those people who can help you by lending a hand and listening when you need it most.

Make a Big Deal of Achievements

A great way to keep yourself motivated to keep reaching for your goals is to celebrate all of your achievements—whether little or big. Did you finally finish that module that’s been kicking your butt? Celebrate with a night out! Get a perfect score on your vocabulary today? Make cupcakes or give yourself an extra 15 minutes to relax. Celebrating when you achieve your goals is a great way to relieve stress and stay motivated for your next goal.

And those are our final 4 tips! To recap the whole list from both part 1 and 2, we recommend: realistic goals and prioritization, remembering why you started, cutting out everything you can, making time for you, building study time into your routine, staying organized, leaning on support groups, making a big deal of your achievements! Would you add to our list?
